How to use contactless tickets

The smartest of cards: checking in with your Südtirol Pass and other contactless tickets

The iconic blue südtirolmobil ticket validation machines can be found at train stations and on all buses. Use them to check in (i.e. validate and use) your QR-Code or contactless ticket.

Mobilcard, museumobil Card, bikemobil Card and different  Südtirol Guest Pass types: Travelling with these contactless tickets is easy. To validate and use your ticket, simply check in by holding it in front of the sensor when boarding a bus or before boarding a train. There's no need to enter a destination code.

Südtirol Pass abo+, Südtirol Pass 65+, Südtirol Pass free

Checking in is easy: To validate and use your ticket, simply hold it in front of the sensor when boarding a bus or before boarding a train. There's no need to enter a destination code.

What to keep in mind when travelling by train:

Connecting trains: If you are travelling on directly connecting trains, there's no need to check in a second time at the station where you change trains.

Checking in at Trento train station: Passengers departing from a train station south of Trento on their way to South Tyrol who have a regular train ticket to Trento and a Südtirol Pass free, a Südtirol Pass 65+ or a Südtirol Pass abo+ without active payment function do not need to alight at Trento and check in to validate their pass.

Good to know

Passengers with a Südtirol Pass free who have indicated in their application form that they are unable to validate their ticket by themselves are exempt from the obligation to validate (check in) their Südtirol Pass free.

If you have activated the payment function of your Südtirol Pass abo+ or Südtirol Pass 65+, you can validate and use your ticket just like a standard Südtirol Pass.

Südtirol Pass and Euregio Family Pass

Passengers with a Südtirol Pass or a Euregio Family Pass pay per route travelled, so it's worth keeping the following things in mind:

Regional and Citybus services: Check in at the beginning of your journey and remember to check out at the end. If you do not check out, the fare charged for the journey will be for the entire route to the final stop.
Urban and Citybuses running within one fare zone: You only need to check in. Please note that for your ticket to be valid if you change onto another bus, you must check in again after boarding. All journeys within 60 minutes made in the same fare zone are charged as a single journey.

südtirolmobil cable-cars: Simply hold your Südtirol Pass in front of the sensor to check in. No need to check out.

To transport a bike or pet, check in a second time:

  • Hold your Südtirol Pass in front of the sensor again,
  • select the appropriate symbol
  • and hold your Südtirol Pass in front of the sensor again to confirm your selection.

Checking in to travel on a train

When travelling on trains and on the Renon/Ritten light railway, please remember to enter the code of your destination, otherwise your ticket will not be valid. Checking in is easy: To validate and use your ticket,

  • hold your Südtirol Pass in front of the sensor,
  • enter the code of your destination or confirm your selection/the suggested station
  • and hold your Südtirol Pass in front of the sensor again to confirm your selection.

Cancelling a journey: If you have already paid for a train journey but will not use the ticket, you can cancel the payment within 45 minutes as long as you're still at the same train station:

  • Hold your Südtirol Pass in front of the sensor,
  • select the symbol showing a crossed-out Südtirol Pass
  • and hold your Südtirol Pass in front of the sensor again to confirm your selection.
