Free museum visits with your abo+

Need some inspiration this summer? Then grab your abo+ and explore South Tyrol’s many museums.

“Summer feat. Museum” is the motto of, well, this year’s museum-themed summer. From 17 June until 4 September 2023, kids and teens with a valid abo+ subscription can take a deep dive into a vast array of cultural institutions all over South Tyrol for absolutely free.

With around 40 participating museums, that’s a treasure trove of experiences ranging from medieval backdrops at Tirolo/Tirol Castle or Roncolo/Runkelstein Castle to contemporary art at its finest courtesy of MeranoArte/Kunst Meran or Museion – all the way to the excitingly hands-on open-air exhibits at the South Tyrol Museum of Folk Traditions in Teodone/Dietenheim, the Wolfsthurn Castle hunting and fishing museum in Mareta/Mareit or the MuseoPassiria/MuseumPasseier.

For a trip deep down into the belly of a mountain, head to the Ridanna/Ridnaun or Predoi/Prettau mining museums – or venture into Fortezza/Franzensfeste Fortress and lose all track of time in its huge labyrinth.

Local history buffs are in for a treat at the Museum Gherdëina, the [hoamet] Tramin Museum and the Gudon/Gufidaun village museum, which highlight life in the valleys and hamlets of South Tyrol. Awe-inspiring and steeped in tradition, the monasteries at Novacella/Neustift Montemaria/Marienberg have magnificent sacral sights in store – and the Mansio Sebatum Museum in San Lorenzo/St. Lorenzen offers a fascinating glimpse of life in a Roman settlement some 2000 years ago.

Even the Ötzi the Iceman, conveniently located at the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology in the heart of Bolzano/Bozen, can be visited for free with an abo+ subscription. Plus of course the South Tyrol Museum of Nature! And there’s more: Don’t miss out on the Museum of Firefighters’ Helmets in the village of Gais, the Bressanone/Brixen Pharmacy Museum or the South Tyrol Museum of Fruit-Growing in Lana.
