STA: budget and programme for 2021 approved

IT systems for public mobility, maintenance and the Venosta/Vinschgau valley railway

19 January 2021

Today, the government of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano/Bozen-South Tyrol approved the 2021 programme and budget of the government-owned STA – Südtiroler Transportstrukturen AG/Strutture Trasporto Alto Adige SpA, allocating it a total 15.7 million EUR for its ongoing activities.

Some 10.8 million EUR, the largest portion of the earmarked funds, will be used for a number of ongoing operations – for instance the STA’s public mobility information systems, the administration of subscription-based Südtirol Pass tickets, making timetables available at stops and stations, developing and enhancing information on timetables as well as on departure times and much more. Other focus points include the maintenance of stations, depots and other properties as well as initiatives to increase sustainable, green mobility and road-safety-related matters in the STA-managed Safety Park near Bolzano/Bozen.

A further 4.9 million EUR of funding have been designated for the management of the Venosta/Vinschgau valley’s railway infrastructure.

An ample range of responsibilities

To quote South Tyrol Minister for Mobility Daniel Alfreider: “The core of the STA’s work is public and smart mobility – with a focus on its sustainable, high-quality expansion and the continuous development of its services.” As South Tyrol’s main provider of public transport, its responsibilities are many and very diverse: They range from the management of the Venosta/Vinschgau valley train line or the development and improvement of information services and data systems all the way to the design and implementation of modern railway projects, the Minister continued. In addition, the STA portfolio also includes the management of properties, facilities and functional buildings used in public transport as well as measures fostering sustainable and safe mobility.
